It is an academic department of the Faculty of Horticulture of the University conducting Post Graduate Studies both M. Sc. (Horticulture) in Vegetable and Spice Crops and Ph. D. (Horticulture) in Vegetable and Spice Crops degree programmes.
Functions:
Teaching- both under graduate (UG) and post graduate (PG) –M.Sc. and Ph. D. degree programmes. Research- both PG (M.Sc. and Ph. D.) thesis related research and departmental research programmes. Extension- Organizing Farmers Training, Frontline demonstration and Functioning as resource person in Training, Workshop and Seminar.Research Thrust Areas:
- Development of appropriate vegetable based cropping systems for different agro-climatic zones.
- Development and evaluation of improved varieties and hybrids of vegetables and spices with good quality high production potential, biotic and abiotic resistance and suitable for export.
- Development and field testing of integrated management of nutrients, diseases and pests of important vegetable crops to reduce input costs, environmental pollution and to avoid pesticide-residue problems.
- Protected cultivation of vegetables and herbal spices.
- Development of package of practices for production of organic vegetable produce.
- Development of Post Harvest Technologies and value added products of vegetable and spices.
